Texas tops Forbes' Top Ten Cities for Jobs in America list

Newscast Media HOUSTON, Texas—When Texas Governor Rick Perry made a California tour earlier this month to encourage businesses and investors to move to Texas, many in California dismissed the tour as a stunt. However, Forbes' economic research team shows Rick Perry has bragging rights. Not only has Texas continually led the country in job growth, a recent survey from Forbes shows that in the best cities for jobs, the Lone Star State tops the list, with five of its metropolitan cities in the top ten.
"The explanation is we have an incredibly diversified economy," said Bernard Weinstein, who's been tracking the north Texas economy since 1975 and is associate director of Southern Methodist University's McGuire Energy Institute. "As the national economy improves, we're getting better."
Moody's data shows that Texans didn't suffer as much in the financial crisis, and they are doing much better now.
Below are the Top Ten Best Cities for Jobs in America, according to Forbes:
1. Dallas, TX — With a projected 2.8% growth rate and a per-capita income of $39,548 comfortably above the national average of $37,000, Dallas topped the list.
2. Houston, TX — With an expected five-year job growth of 2.6% a year and an average income of $42,804, the Bayou City comes in second.
3. Austin, TX — A five-year expected annual job growth rate of 3.2% and a per-capita income of $35,222.
4. Fort Worth, TX — A five-year expected annual job growth rate of 2.6% and a per-capita income of $36,089.
5. Seattle, WA — A five-year expected job growth rate of 1.9% and an average income of $50,497.
6. San Antonio, TX — A five-year expected job growth rate of 2.6% and an average income of $32,776.
7. Oklahoma City, OK — A five-year expected job growth rate of 1.7% and a per-capita income of $36, 915.
8. Denver, CO — A five-year expected job growth rate of 2.1% and a per-capita income of $45,337.
9. San Francisco, CA — A five-year expected job growth rate of 1.9% and an average income of $67,098.
10. Salt Lake City, UT — A five year expected job-growth rate of 1.9% and a per-capita income of $37,186.
