US condemns string of terrorist attacks in Nairobi-Kenya

Newscast NAIROBI—Kenya continues to grapple with a string of bomb attacks that have rocked the nation and threaten the tourist industry. The last attacks were two blasts that exploded in Nairobi today, killing around ten people and injuring dozens.
In a statement, the US government said:
"The United States condemns today’s despicable terrorist attacks in the Gikoma market area of Nairobi, Kenya, that took the lives of many and injured dozens more. This is the latest in a series of cowardly attacks on innocent civilians in Kenya, from the capital to the coast. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who were killed and injured. As we have for half a century, the United States stands with our Kenyan friends and partners who continue to face adversity with courage and resolve. We support them in their efforts to confront terrorism in all of its forms."
According to the BBC, the Kenyan National Disaster Operation Centre said the first explosion occurred in a minibus, the second in the large open-air Gikomba market. (pop-up)
According to reports, warnings were issued two days ago about impending terrorist acts in the Nairobi-Mombasa area. The usual suspect is the Somali-based al-Shabab militant group known for acts of terror in the region. Add Comments>>
