Netanyahu: Iran's nuke program must be fully dismantled
by Joseph Earnest September 29, 2014
Newscast Media NEW YORK—Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told the UN General Assembly in New York Iran’s nuclear capabilities "must be fully dismantled." Speaking on September 29, Netanyahu called Iran "the world's most dangerous regime in the world’s most dangerous region," saying Tehran cannot be allowed to develop "the world's most dangerous weapons." Netanyahu said Islamic State militants pose a threat that "must be defeated." But he said to defeat the Islamic State militants "and leave Iran as a threshold nuclear power is to win the battle and lose the war." Iran denies it trying to develop a nuclear weapons capability—saying its nuclear program is only for peaceful civilian purposes. Speaking about the recent Gaza conflict, Netanyahu blamed Hamas militants for the deaths of Palestinian civilians from Israeli ordnance—saying Hamas intentionally used children and other civilians as human shields to try to protect their weapons.
