Sensationalist media and Morgan Freeman statement hoax
by Joseph Earnest December 17, 2012
Newscast Media LOS ANGELES—A statement attributed to actor Morgan Freeman that went viral over the weekend appears to be a hoax, according to the actor's publicist. Freeman's publicist Stan Rosenfield told Wrap.com that the actor and his people were still trying to determine the origin of the alleged hoax statement. "It's because of the way the media reports it," the statement read in part: "Turn on the news and see how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single 'victim' of Columbine? "Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basement see the news and want to top it by doing something worse and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster instead of a sad nobody." The statement concludes by saying: "So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or maternity ward next." Morgan Freeman may not have written the hoax, but it seems like an accurate description of today's media. Add Comments>>
