Newscast Media WASHINGTON, D.C.—The inaugural festivities coincide with Martin Luther King Day celebrated on January 21. MLK Day is a federal holiday, as such banks, federal post offices and other federal agencies will be closed. In addition, the Stock Market will closed. Retail outlets and will conducting business as usual, although public schools will take the day off.

In honor or Martin Luther King, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial was built in his honor in Washington, D.C. at the National Mall right opposite the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Memorial.
