Judge orders child's name to be changed from Messiah to Martin
by Joseph Earnest August 12, 2013
Newscast Media NEW PORT, Tenn— WBIR-TV in Tennessee is reporting that a Newport mother has been ordered by a judge to change her child's name from Messiah to Martin, because the name Messiah is reserved for one person only...Jesus Christ
During a child support battle, Jaleesa Martin and her husband could not agree upon what the 7-month old baby's last name would be. That's when Child Support Magistrate Lu Ann Ballew took a look at the first name, and found it unacceptable.
"The word Messiah is a title and it's a title that has only been earned by one person and that one person is Jesus Christ," Judge Ballew said. Watch:
The judge has ordered the mother to rename the child "Martin DeShawn McCullough," and also have the name-change reflect the same on the birth certificate, consistent with the court order.

Birth certificate currently reflects the old "unacceptable" name "I was shocked. I never intended on naming my son Messiah because it means God and I didn't think a judge could make me change my baby's name because of her religious beliefs," Martin said. The mother says she will appeal the judge's decision in a higher court. Add Comments>>
