Newscast Media JACKSONVILLE, Fla—Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney harshly criticized Barack Obama for his response to the attacks in Libya that led to the murder of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens. The attacks were triggered by a video that was made and released on the Web that Muslims say mocks Mohammed their prophet.

In his statement Romney said, "It's disgraceful that the Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."

"This attack on American individuals and our embassy, it's outrageous. It's disgusting," Romney said in Jacksonville, Fla.

The U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt had released this statement before the ambassador was murdered:

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by      misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn      efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the      September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring      our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of      democracy.

Romney stood by his criticism and said, "I also believe the administration was wrong to stand by a statement sympathizing with those who had breached our embassy in Egypt."  He said the White House sent "mixed signals" with its response to the attacks.

Writer and director Sam Bacile remains defiant, saying Islam is a 'cancer' and he wants his film to make a political statement. The 56-year-old identifies himself as an Israeli Jew and says he believes his video will help his native land by exposing Islam's flaws to the world. Excerpts dubbed into Arabic were posted on YouTube. Bacile says he sympathizes with those who have been killed, but lax embassy security is to blame.   Add Comments>>
