Putin: Big mistale not to work with Assad's forces in Syria
by Joseph Earnest September 28, 2015
Newscast Media NEW YORK—Russian President Vladimir Putin says it was a big mistake not to cooperate with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces, which he said was the only force "truly fighting" the Islamic State extremist group in Syria. "We think it is an enormous mistake to refuse to cooperate with the Syrian government and its armed forces that are valiantly fighting terrorism face to face," Putin told the UN General Assembly in New York on September 28. Putin also criticized the West for arming "moderate" rebels in Syria, saying they later joined IS militants. Putin said Russia—as the current president of the UN Security Council—would seek agreement on a resolution aimed at coordinating the actions of all forces confronting extremists in Syria. His speech came amid a Russian military buildup in Syria that has raised concerns in the United States. Add Comments>>
