Gov. Abbott to Obama: Texas will not accept Syrian refugees Texas Governor Greg Abbott—Photo by Joseph Earnest

Newscast Media AUSTIN, Texas—In a letter written to President Barack Obama, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he will not allow Syrian refugees to relocate to Texas in the wake of the Paris bombings.
"I--and millions of Americans--implore you to halt your plan to accept more Syrian refugees in the United States. A Syrian "refugee" appears to have been part of the Paris terror attack. American humanitarian compassion could be exploited to expose Americans to similar deadly danger. The reasons for such concerns are plentiful," the governor wrote. The entire letter can be read or downloaded here. (pop-up)
Meanwhile, in addition to Texas, 20 more states have also blocked Syrian refugees from resettling. They are: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
On his Facebook page, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder wrote, "Michigan is a welcoming state and we are proud of our rich history of immigration. But our first priority is protecting the safety of our residents."
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal wrote on Twitter, "I just signed an Executive Order instructing state agencies to take all available steps to stop the relocation of Syrian refugees to LA."
Presidential candidates who have been weak on immigration, particularly Republicans, now find themselves having to shift their views, since it is a done deal that immigration will be the central theme of the 2016 presidential race. Add Comments>>
