by Joseph Earnest May 28, 2012 Newscast Media NAIROBI, Kenya—Not wanting to be outdone by the Chinese or left behind by the West, Iran is strengthening its trade relations with the East African Community (EAC), and has dispatched the First Vice President of Iran, Mohammed Reza Rahimi to East Africa to secure a cooperation pact that will double development aid in agriculture, finance, energy, health services, and to address the trade imbalance.
Iran's Press TV reports the Islamic Republic's strategy is based on closer relations with African countries, particularly Kenya. Rahimi, who is currently on an official visit to two East African countries of Kenya and Tanzania, made the remark while speaking to reporters upon his arrival in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on Monday. "Good, amicable and historical ties between Iran and Kenya have been improved in terms of quality and quantity in recent years. We are determined to [further] expand mutual relations in all fields," Rahimi said. Watch video below:
