Palestine’s UN resolution to end Israeli occupation fails

Newscast Media NEW YORK—A Palestinian resolution calling for the end of Israeli
occupation within three years, was submitted to the United Nations Security Council
on Tuesday evening for a vote.

According to the Hindu Times, Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian U.N. ambassador, told
reporters who asked why the Palestinians were pressing for a vote in the face of a
U.S. veto that it was time for the Security Council “to shoulder its responsibility and
to adopt this resolution.”

“If one party decides for whatever reason that they do not want to go along with
this massive support by the international community to find a just solution to this
conflict, to try to save the two—state solution by asking for the end of the
occupation that started in 1967 … then nobody should blame us as Arabs and
Palestinians and Muslims … and so many others for not opening a door a responsible
door for peace through the Security Council,” Mansour said.

The resolution has since been rejected after key countries abstained from taking
part, according to the Times of Israel.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird called on the Security Council members to
vote down the resolution and focus on encouraging negotiations instead, the Times
of Israel reported.

US urges Egypt’s Morsi to repudiate remarks about Jews

Egypt's Morsi

Newscast Media WASHINGTON, D.C.—The US government “strongly condemned” remarks reportedly made by President Mohamad Mursi, almost three years ago when he was a Muslim Brotherhood leader, over Jews, saying the Egyptian leader should repudiate his comments.

White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that the language Mursi used was “deeply offensive” and that U.S. officials had raised concerns with the Egyptian government on the matter.

According to a video obtained by the New York Times, Mursi urged Egyptians in the year of 2010 to “nurse our children and our grandchildren on hatred” for Jews and Zionists.

In a television interview months later, he described Jews as “these bloodsuckers who attack the Palestinians, these warmongers, the descendants of apes and pigs,” the newspaper said.

“We completely reject these statements, as we do any language that espouses religious hatred,” Carney said when asked about Mursi’s comments at the White House daily briefing.

Carney called on Mursi, elected in June after a popular uprising that ousted Egypt’s longtime ruler Hosni Mubarak, to “make clear that he respects people of all faiths and that this type of rhetoric is not acceptable or productive in a democratic Egypt.”

He noted, however, that Mursi, as president, had worked with the Obama administration to help broker an Israeli-Hamas ceasefire in Gaza late last year and had promised to uphold Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters: “We’ll also judge him by what he says, and we think that these comments should be repudiated and they should be repudiated firmly.”

Ahmadinejad opens up to Larry King about Israel

Iran's Ahmadinejad

Newscast Media –On an interview with Larry King that will Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lashed called Benjamin Netanyahu in “skilled killer” who “should be put on trial for killing women and children.” A transcript of the interview is below:

King: Prime Minister Netanyahu was recently a guest on our program and he said,
“The greatest threat facing humanity, that’s the world, is that Iran would acquire
nuclear weapons.” If Israel feels that strongly, and you don’t assure them, don’t
you fear that they might do a first strike?”

Ahmadinejad: So you think that we should be concerned about Mr. Netanyahu’s
fears and concerns?

King: Yeah.

Ahmadinejad: Why should we be doing that for him? Who is he?
King: He is the head of a country.

Ahmadinjad: Who is he in the first place to begin with? He is a skilled killer. All
dictators in the world, have condemned others, and he is one of many of them.
He should be put on trial for killing Palestinians, for placing Gaza under siege
which is against the law, against the spirit of the charter of the United Nations.
He should be put on trial for killing women and children.

Ahmadinejad has said that Iran has no interest in acquiring a nuclear bomb and has called for both the United States government and The Zionist regime (Israel) to be disarmed.
