Texas legislators defund Planned Parenthood by $61 million
Newscast Media AUSTIN, Texas — During the recent debate on the General Appropriations Act, several Republican Party members successfully defunded Planned Parenthood by $61 Million. The members’ actions diverted tax money from abortion procedures and instead funneled the funds to worthwhile programs such as Alternatives to Abortion.
The representattives who are credited for bringing the efforts to fruition are representatives Dwayne Bohac, Warren Chisum, Wayne Christian, Bryan Hughes, Jodie Laubenberg, Sid Miller, Jim Murphy, Charles Perry, Randy Weber, and Bill Zedler are all to be applauded for their cooperative efforts. This alliance of conservatives ensured that fewer taxpayer dollars go to abortion procedures.
Republican Party of Texas Chairman Steve Munisteri stated, “I am proud of the dedication to life issues demonstrated by these representatives. Taxpayers have let us know they do not want their money to go to abortion providers. These Republicans responded to that call. Throughout the budget process, the obvious focus was on balancing Texas’ books and restricting government functions within Texas’ means. These members additionally realized the number of unborn lives at stake, and acted effectively.”
House Bill 1 is on its way to the Senate. After the Senate approves its own version of the budget, the two chambers will negotiate a final budget in conference committee.

This is absolutely disgusting. I am a Texan woman. I know several women whose lives have been made much easier because of Planned Parenthood because of access to birth control.
PLANNED PARENTHOOD SAVES LIVES, NOT KILLS THEM.
I hope you freaks realize that if PP were to go away, there would be MORE abortions. Without easy access to birth control and information, MORE PEOPLE WILL ABORT.
Grow a brain. Texas disgraces me, always.
Bla, Planned Parenthood has been supporting child prostitution and has been known to often refuse to let its patrons look at an ultrasound before they receive an abortion. They also call themselves “non-profit”, when the abortions that they perform bring in much more money in profits than a non-profit organization is allowed to have. Whether you are “pro-life” or “pro-choice”, Planned Parenthoods all around the country have been caught dealing in immoral and illegal acts. I am a woman, I would not want to get my birth control from this company. There are many more ways to get good birth control than from Planned Parenthood.
And, actually, if Planned Parenthood were to go away, there would be fewer abortions. An argument can be made that more women would get abortions illegally and unsafely, and this, in part, is true. However, to show you that fewer abortions would take place, I will use this example: in Mississippi, there is only ONE Planned Parenthood, and it is in Jackson. Mississippi has the lowest abortion rate in the United States because there is only one abortion clinic. The lack of Planned Parenthoods in Mississippi does not result in less birth control or more illegal abortions. It simply results in fewer abortions.
Women in Mississippi still use birth control, they just don’t get it from a company that supports child prostitution. And you don’t have to worry about Planned Parenthood going anywhere – they make $951 million per year without state or federal funding. They do not NEED the state or federal funding, so why should we continue to fund them when our tax dollars could go to a more useful and poorer state program, such as education?
