French Riviera Hijacked By Russian Mafia

French Riviera

Newscast Media — Countries from the former Soviet Union have such a tight hold on the region, that Riviera detectives expect an eastern connection to almost every crime.

“Everything from burglary and money laundering to vice is controlled by the Mob from former Communist countries,” said one police officer, who was involved in the arrest of 69 members of a Georgian syndicate in March. “They’re into everything, from the Russian prostitute rings in resorts like Cannes and St Tropez to gassing tourists in their villa and stealing everything they’ve got,” said the police officer.

“Bosses are now based here permanently, with foot soldiers working for them, often flying in for set periods before returning home with their profits in cash. The numbers really are unprecedented at the moment.”

Alain Bauer, a French criminologist, said: “This is one of the best structured criminal organizations in Europe, with a quasi-military operation”.

Another investigator, from the judicial police in Nice, told Le Figaro newspaper that he had recently been involved in the arrests of two eastern Mafia chiefs.

“One of them is involved in a vast money laundering operation in Spain and waiting to be extradited”, said the officer.

“The other is suspected of masterminding the assassination of another rogue Georgian, and he organized a very violent settling of accounts, worthy of an action film, in a flat in Nice.”

Laurent Laubry, a representative of the police union Alliance, said that many of the gang members were heavily armed ex-soldiers from Soviet regions such as Chechnya. He said that one of his colleagues was beaten up by four Chechens as he went to buy a packet of cigarettes last week.

“The undercover officer received a rain of blows to the face and was left for dead between two cars,” said Mr Laubry, who described the “ultra-violent methods of these people, who have no morals, no rules, and who are often heavily armed and beefy.”

After a decade on the run, Sicilian Godfather Giuseppe Falsone, was arrested in June, in Marseilles after a decade on the run. He was believed to have had plastic surgery and was using false identification while continuing to coordinate criminal activity, said local police.

Indian Woman Adopts And Breastfeeds Calf On Camera

Woman breastfeeds calf

Newscast Media Rajasthan, India — Out of the goodness of her heart, an Indian woman has decided to adopt three-day-old calf that was left orphaned when its mother died.

Chouthi Bai, who lives in Kilchu village, Rajasthan, breastfeeds the calf, that is now more than a month and a half old, three or four times a day.

“After her mother died, I held her in my arms and breastfed her. I nurtured her by feeding her my milk,” she said when speaking to a Reuters reporter. “She was so young when the cow died. For me there is no difference between a calf and an infant,” she said.

The calf, who follows Bai closely, is also fed bread and grass. “I feed her three-four times in a day, the same amount an infant requires in a day,” Bai added. “Sometimes we have to feed her bread. We give her water to
drink and slowly she will grow on this diet. So, even in my absence she is fed. She will grow up eating grass. The gods will be pleased if I raise her.”

A local man said that this if the first time anything like this has happened in the village, and that the calf goes along whenever Bai heads to the fields.

Death row inmate kills self after death sentence is lifted

San Quentin State Prison

Newscast Media SAN QUENTIN, Calif. — Less than week after a 70-year-old California inmate had his death sentence lifted, the man decided to hang himself in his cell.

San Quentin State Prison spokesman Lt. Sam Robinson said that a guard found George Smithey on Saturday hanging from a noose made from bed sheets tied around his cell bars.

A Calaveras County judge overturned Smithey’s death sentence Aug. 23, more than 20 years after he was convicted of killing a woman there during a 1988 break-in.

The judge ruled that Smithey was mentally retarded under state standards set years after his trial and therefore ineligible for the death penalty. His sentence was commuted to life without parole.

Robinson said he did not know whether Smithey had learned his death sentence had been overturned. Authorities found no note.

Republicans take 10-point lead over Democrats for the fifth week in a row

Newscast Media PRINCETON, NJ — The GOP leads Democrats by 51% to 41% among registered voters in Gallup weekly tracking of 2010 congressional voting preferences. The 10-percentage-point lead is the GOP’s largest so far this year and is its largest in Gallup’s history of tracking the midterm generic ballot for Congress.

These results are based on aggregated data from registered voters surveyed Aug. 23-29 as part of Gallup Daily tracking. This marks the fifth week in a row in which Republicans have held an advantage over Democrats — one that has ranged between 3 and 10 points.

The Republican leads of 6, 7, and 10 points this month are all higher than any previous midterm Republican advantage in Gallup’s history of tracking the generic ballot, which dates to 1942. Prior to this year, the highest such gap was five points, measured in June 2002 and July 1994. Elections in both of these years resulted in significant Republican gains in House seats.

French First Lady called a whore by Iran media

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy

Newscast Media TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian state media called France’s first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, a “prostitute” on Monday due to her support for an Iranian woman who faced death by stoning on an adultery conviction.

The wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy has condemned the stoning sentence against Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, which Iran temporarily suspended but did not throw out after an international outcry. Ashtiani, a 43-year-old mother of two, could still face execution by stoning or hanging after a final review of her case, her lawyer, Javid Houtan Kian, told The Associated Press Monday.

The Kayhan newspaper, whose editor is a representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, described Bruni-Sarkozy as a “prostitute” on Saturday in an article headlined “French prostitutes enter the human rights uproar.”

The state-owned news website carried similar remarks on Monday. “Although Bruni, the morally corrupt singer and actress of Italian (origin), was able to break the Sarkozy family and marry the French president, lately new reports have emerged about her affair with a singer,” said the weekend report in Kayhan.

The media attack was in response to an open letter Bruni-Sarkozy wrote to Ashtiani that was printed in several French news outlets last week.

“How to remain silent after learning of the sentence against you?” Bruni-Sarkozy wrote, adding that the stoning would “deeply wound all women, all children, all those who have feelings of humanity.”

“Deep within your jail cell, know that my husband will plead your cause tirelessly and that France will not abandon you,” she wrote.Ashtiani was convicted in May 2006 of having an “illicit relationship” with two men after the murder of her husband and was sentenced to 99 lashes. Later that year, she was convicted of adultery and sentenced to be stoned, even though she retracted a confession she claims was made under duress.

Iran last month stayed her stoning, but authorities now say she has also been convicted of being an accomplice in her husband’s murder. In a purported confession aired on state TV early this month, Ashtiani admits to unwittingly playing a role in the 2005 killing. She could also face a separate death sentence in that case.

2012 Bunkers With Canned Food And Water Become Hottest Investment

Canned Food In Bunker

As we get closer to 2012, investors are not taking chances on what may or may not happen as predicted by astronomers and scientists. A large number of investors including the U.S. government are investing in underground shelters, should an event of catastrophic nature happen. Scientists have predicted that we could face one of the most powerful geomagnetic storms ever.

It is predicted that in 2012, there will be solar flares that will interfere with the earth’s magnetic field. The Earth’s magnetic field, our primary defense against harmful solar radiation, has begun to shrink. Russian geophysicists believe that the Solar System has entered an interstellar energy cloud. This cloud is energizing and destabilizing the Sun and all the planets’ atmospheres. According to scientist Lawrence Joseph, The first cosmic croissant of the Carrington event hit Earth the next day, August 28, 1859, causing some of the most beautiful auroras ever seen. The northern lights don’t normally extend down to Havana, Cuba, but this time they did, making the sky there appear as though it were stained with blood and on fire.

On September 1, 1859, the Sun erupted again, even more furiously. According to scientists’ reconstructions, the second Carrington CME was dozens of times more powerful than average, weighing in at about 10 billion tons and 10 trillion trillion watts (trillions of times more than the sum total of all electrical, mechanical, combustible, muscular, animal, and plant energy than has been produced or consumed in the history of the planet). Traveling at about 5 million miles per hour, it was also one of the fastest ever recorded.

When CMEs (Coronal Mass Ejections) launch, they create a shockwave that slaps the solar wind, a sphere of charged particles, mostly protons. This impact causes what is known as an SEP (solar energetic particle) event, which accelerates everything in its path exponentially; most of these supercharged particles take an hour or less to reach the Earth’s atmosphere, where they fuse nitrogen and oxygen atoms to create nitrates, which eventually settle as dust onto the poles. Were we hit today by a geomagnetic storm of equivalent strength to the Carrington event, our civilization could well be plunged into chaos. This is not an exaggeration. Rather, it is the consensus of those who presented at the National Academy of Sciences’ report Severe Space Weather Events: Understanding Societal and Economic Impacts, published in December 2008. The report’s executive summary says:

Because of the interconnectedness of critical infrastructures in modern society, the impacts of severe space weather events can go beyond disruption of existing technical systems and lead to short-term as well as to long-term collateral socioeconomic disruptions. Electric power is modern society’s cornerstone technology, the technology on which virtually all other infrastructures and services depend…Collateral effects of a longer-term outage [such as would almost certainly result from a Carrington-scale space weather event] would likely include, for example, disruption of the transportation, communication, banking, and finance systems, and government services; the breakdown of the distribution of potable water owing to pump failure and the loss of perishable foods and medications because of lack of refrigeration. The resulting loss of services for a significant period of time in even one region of the country could affect the entire nation and have international impact as well. Contributors from NASA, NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration), the Smithsonian Institution, the United States Air Force, a number of major universities, and advanced technology corporations gave evidence that a contemporary Carrington-scale event would lead to deep and widespread social disruption. Basic to this contention are the enormous changes to the United States’ infrastructure over the past century and a half. Modern society is utterly dependent on electricity. The electrical system is the master system upon which all others depend. And it is vulnerable to historically large space weather events.

“Emergency services would be strained, and command and control might be lost,” concludes the committee of National Academy of Sciences researchers, chaired by Daniel Baker, director of LASP, the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Scientists have also noticed a migration in the poles and some go as far as to predict we could see a complete shift of the poles, where the North and South poles switch places. Should something like that occur, the entire map of the world would change, because earthquakes and volcanic eruptions would occur, tsunamis and tidal waves as high as five miles high would sweep the land, the power grid would shut down, and water would become scarce because it requires electricity to be pumped from the plants to its final destination.

Nobody knows how catastrophic these events would be come 2012, but one thing we know for sure is that the government is racing to complete hundreds of Deep Underground Military Bases (D.U.M.B.S) several miles beneath the earth’s crust. So the question is, who will qualify for room in these bunkers? Answer, the elite, powerful politicians, people in the medical field and a select few people of reproductive age who can continue the species, should the majority of the population get wiped out.

Plant life would be destroyed and animals too and it is suspicious that Bill Gates is funding a project in which all seed species in the world are being collected and stored 50 miles deep in an underground bunker in Norway. Now why would Bill Gates fund the collection of the seeds in the world? Another question is why won’t the government warn people? The reason is because there would be massive panic. Remember hurricane Ike and Katrina in Louisiana and Houston how the freeways got clogged? In addition, there is just not enough room for everyone in the underground bunkers, so the rest of us who are left to fend for ourselves will have to develop Jason Bourne survival skills.

This is a subject the media is not allowed to touch. A lot of media elites have been promised rooms in these bunkers should a catastrophe occur. In exchange, media moguls advise their staff to keep mum about the topic, and ridicule anyone who raises it.

The majority of the population (90 percent) of the United States lives within 20 miles from the coast, so it is easy to see how 90 percent of the population can be wiped out, and the government would need people of breeding age to continue our civilization. As a journalist, I can only say, with all the secrecy and preparations being made by the government and elites, something’s up.

VIDEO: Sarah Palin Delivers Speech At Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor Rally

Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck

Newscast Media Washington D.C. –On the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have A Dream’ speech, TV host and radio personality Glenn Beck kicked off the much anticipated “Restoring Honor” rally with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.

“America today begins to turn back to God,” Beck told the mostly conservative crowd, as they cheered throughout his speech.

The TV host also said that the rally would reclaim the civil rights movement, in a response to the accusation by Al Sharpton that Beck had hijacked the movement.

In her speech, Sarah Palin proclaimed how proud she was to have raised a combat veteran, who happens to be her son, and stressed the need to support the troops as well as take care of them and their families when they return home.

Palin said, “I must assume that you too, knowing that we must not fundamentally transform America as some would want, we must restore America, and restore her honor.” She continued her speech by saying, “Now, I’ve been asked to speak today, not as a politician, no, something more. Something much more. I’ve been asked to speak as the mother of a soldier, and I am proud of that distinction. You know, say what you wanna say about me, but I raised a combat vet, and you can’t take that away from me.”

In his weekly radio/Internet address Saturday, Obama said: “Our nation’s commitment to all who wear its uniform is a sacred trust that is as old as our republic … a moral obligation to uphold.”

Jimmy Carter’s visit yields freedom for jailed American

Newscast Media PYONGYANG, North Korea — Former US President Jimmy Carter has arrived back in the US with an American whose release by North Korea he won. Mr Carter and Aijalon Gomes touched down in Boston, where their plane was met by Mr Gomes’s family. Mr Gomes, who had been living in South Korea, was jailed in January after crossing into North Korea from China.

The insular nation’s state-run news agency said leader Kim Jong-il had granted the former president’s request to “leniently forgive” Mr Gomes. His friends and family applauded when the flight landed at Boston’s airport shortly after at 1400 (1800 GMT) on Friday.

Mr Gomes, who appeared thin, embraced his mother and Mr Carter upon walking off the plane. The former president spent two days in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, before leaving with Mr Gomes, who had been working as an English teacher in South Korea.

The US state department said it welcomed Mr Gomes’s release, but also stressed that Washington had played no official role in Mr Carter’s trip.

“We appreciate former President Carter’s humanitarian effort and welcome North Korea’s decision to grant Mr Gomes special amnesty and allow him to return to the United States,” state department spokesman Philip Crowley said.

Baby Tiger Found At Airport Hidden In Suitcase

Baby tiger

Newscast Media BANGKOK –A baby tiger cub that had been drugged and hidden in a suitcase of a woman flying from Thailand to Iran, was discovered by authorities at Bangkok’s international airport, an official and a wildlife protection group reported Friday.

The woman, a Thai national, had checked in for her flight and her overweight bag was sent for an X-ray which showed what appeared to be a live animal inside, according to TRAFFIC, a wildlife trade monitoring group. The woman was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport before boarding her Sunday flight. The cub, estimated to be about 3 months old, was sent to a wildlife conservation center in Bangkok.

“The cub arrived at our unit Monday,” said Chaiyaporn Chareesaeng, head of the Wildlife Health Unit at the Department of National Parks’ Wildlife and Plant Conservation Center, where the animal was put under close supervision.

“He appeared exhausted, dehydrated and couldn’t walk, so we had to give him oxygen, water and lactation,” said Chaiyaporn. “We have monitored him closely. As of today, he looks better and can walk a little now.”

The cub could have fetched about 100,000 baht ($3,200) on the black market in Iran, where it is popular to have exotic pets.

Wildlife experts say the number of tigers in Asia have plummeted over the years due mainly to habitat loss and poachers who sell their skins and body parts to booming medicinal and souvenir markets, mostly in China. Conservationists say the government needs to do more to eliminate trafficking networks that operate out of the country.

“We applaud all agencies that came together to uncover this brazen smuggling attempt,” Chris R. Shepherd, TRAFFIC’s deputy regional director for Southeast Asia, said in a statement.

Glenn Beck Rally Gets Support From Christian Community

Glenn Beck

Newscast Media — Television and radio personality Glenn Beck will be joined by approximately 2,000 ministers and religious leaders are expected to attend Beck’s “Divine Destiny” event Friday night ahead of the television and radio personality’s more publicized “Restoring Honor” rally on Saturday.

“Whether we care to believe it or not, our country is in our danger’s hour,” says Beck. “And there’s only one answer.”

Beck spent the past year trying to forge relationships with some of the biggest names in the Christian community an effort he admits has been extraordinary because of his faith and who he is.

Raised in a Catholic home, Beck has become increasingly popular among social conservatives for his political commentaries but has not been so easily embraced by Christian theological conservatives who regard Mormonism as heresy or, at best, non-Christian. Before deciding to stand by Beck, evangelical megachurch pastor Jim Garlow said he had to do a lot sorting and watched Beck as closely as he could.

“I have listened and watched very carefully regarding clues to Glenn’s spiritual condition,” said the lead pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church in La Mesa, Calif.

“I have interviewed several people who have been with him and have talked very specifically with him regarding his own personal salvation,” he added. And according to Garlow, Beck has said “unequivocally” that that he relies on the atonement of Jesus on the cross for forgiveness for his sins.

“[A]nd those are almost the exact words, “Garlow recalled in a five-page memo released this past Tuesday. “Few people use the term atonement. Glenn did. “Southern Baptist leader Richard Land was reportedly surprised to hear the Gospel so clearly on secular television.

“I have interviewed persons who have talked specifically with Glenn about his personal salvation – persons extremely well known in Christianity – and they have affirmed (using language evangelicals understand), ‘Glenn is saved,’” Garlow reported. “He understands receiving Christ as savior.”

Still, Garlow made it clear that he doesn’t see eye-to-eye with Beck on a number of things, including theology. But the megachurch pastor noted that everyone’s theological understanding is off and that only the most arrogant would say that its 100 percent perfect.

“Here is my question: if your theology is off slightly, but you still trust exclusively in Jesus Christ’s death on the cross for your salvation, and in his resurrection, are you still saved? Going to heaven? Yes,” Garlow argued.

Walmart Attempts To Block Class Action Lawsuit

Newscast Media — In an attempt to block a class-action lawsuit, Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, has asked the US supreme court to freeze the lawsuit, which alleges the company systematically discriminated against female workers. The company is appealing an April court ruling which authorized the class-action litigation on behalf of an estimated 1.5 million women workers. The women say the company practiced widespread discrimination in its pay and promotion practices.

“The class is larger than the active-duty personnel in the army, navy, air force, marines, and coast guard combined – making it the largest employment class action in history by several orders of magnitude,” Walmart argued in its petition to the court filed on Wednesday. The corporation is arguing that the petition involves too many people to proceed as one case.

Brad Seligman, the lawyer representing six female employees who are spearheading the case, said Walmart’s appeal was an attempt to deny clients their day in court.

“The ruling upholding the class in this case is well within the mainstream that courts at all levels have recognized for decades,” he said. “Only the size of the case is unusual, and that is a product of Walmart’s size and the breadth of the discrimination we documented.” The case was authorized by a divided 9th Circuit US Court of Appeals in April by a 6-5 decision.

The lawsuit was allowed to proceed on the grounds that its mere size should not be a reason to dismiss the case. Lawyers for Walmart insisted that the women named in the case should sue individually and that the size of the class action, which could in theory include as many as 1.5 million women, made it impossible to defend against.

Web site CandidateCheck.Net provides background check services on politicians

Newscast Media — CandidateCheck LLC today announced the availability of, a website designed to allow candidates the opportunity to have their backgrounds and credentials confirmed by an independent third party source. Authorized by the candidate and conducted by its exclusive partner TalentWise, the background check will consist of a 10 year criminal record search, 10 year civil record search, 10 year employment verification, post-secondary education verification, professional license verification, and a national sex offender registry search. Candidates will have an opportunity to review and dispute the results of their background check prior to public release. Voters will see a summary report of any candidate that completes the check and can track who has been checked.

The organization was founded by David Doud and Todd Owens with a mission of leveraging workforce best practices to increase voter trust and confidence. According to Doud, “Because formal background screening is not a part of our election process, our democracy suffers. Voters’ are left to their own devices to sort through the campaign noise and separate fact from fiction in choosing their candidates. If we can better inform just one voter through the adoption of this proven private sector practice, let’s do it for the U.S.A.”

“Over the past 20 years, pre-employment background screening has become an accepted, if not expected, part of the hiring process,” said Todd Owens, general manager of TalentWise, a leading provider of employment screening solutions to thousands of businesses nationwide. “By conducting an appropriate level of due diligence, employers can improve workforce productivity and reduce the risk to their financial assets, their people, and their customers. We are pleased to assist CandidateCheck in its effort to extend the same level of due diligence to candidates for public office.”

About Candidate Check:
CandidateCheck was founded in 2010 by David Doud with the aim of building voters’ trust in political candidates. Active in politics, David was surprised that in today’s information rich world, there still didn’t exist a place where voters could go for impartial verification about the men and women running for public office. Instead, what voters are faced with every election cycle is a deluge of information from all manner of sources, all of which are inherently biased. Add to this the almost daily news of a breaking political scandal and voters’ skepticism increases and potential candidates are discouraged from
participating in such a grueling process.

Conservatives prohibited from holding rally where Obama announced presidential run

Barack Obama

Newscast Media –A conservative group by the name of Restore Our Constitution was denied a request by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, to hold a rally at Illinois’ Old State Capitol both because of the site’s prohibition of political events and also because of a lack of resources due to budget cuts.

The group was also denied because the site prohibits political demonstrations, yet it is the same place where Barack Obama announced his run for president and later his choice of Joe Biden for vice president.

An exception was made for Obama’s events, the spokesman told the paper, because officials knew it would generate publicity for the site unparalleled to any other events. He claimed that 10 requests to hold events at the Old Capitol have also been denied recently, including non-political receptions.

DNA Shows Hitler Was Part African Part Jewish

Adolf Hitler

Newscast Media — A report from Belgian magazine, Knack which says it obtained saliva samples after tracking down 39 relatives from throughout Europe, as well as in America, indicates Hilter had both Jewish and African heritage in him.”One can from this postulate that Hitler was related to people whom he despised,” Jean-Paul Mulders, the journalist who wrote the article, stated in his report.

Working with historian Marc Vermeeren, the samples were tested and were found to contain a chromosome called Haplopgroup E1b1b (Y-DNA), which is rarely found in Western Europeans.

“It is most commonly found in the Berbers of Morocco, in Algeria, Libya and Tunisia as well as among Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews,” Vermeeren said in the article. It has always been suspected that Hitler had jewish blood in him, but this is the first time scientific data has backed up the claims.

Also according to J. A. Rogers, Adolph Hitler declares in Mein Kampf Negroes are “half-apes.” There were from 20,000 to 24,000 Africans in German from 1933-1945. Many of these Africans married German women and bore half African and half German children. They were called “Rhineland Bastards.”

Hitler, being the eugenicist that he was, sterilzed the majority of the blacks in Germany, and the rest disappeared in camps. For more information on the fate of black people who lived in Germany, read the book titled “German’s Black Holocaust, by Firpo W. Carr, Ph.D.

DEA looking for Ebonics translators to interprete wiretaps

DEA seeks Ebonics interpreters

Newscast Media –The Drug Enforcement Agency has nine openings for people who are fluent in Ebonics – or African American patois, in order to interpret wiretapped conversations between suspected drug dealers. The interpreters would help the DEA decipher arrangements between criminals. Special Agent Michael Sanders said experts were needed to determine exactly what suspects were saying, which could be crucial in gaining convictions.

Sanders said: “You can maybe get a general idea of what they’re saying, but you have to understand that this has to hold up in court. You need someone to say I know what they mean when they say ‘ballin’ or ‘pinching pennies’. It has nothing to do with racial issues. It is a type of language recognised by different linguist services.”

For those who are unfamiliar with Ebonics, ‘ballin’ means to succeed or do well at something, while ‘penny pinching’ means being tight with money or spending it begrudgingly.

Another DEA official said there was nothing “racial” about the hiring effort, identifying the white rapper Eminem as “one of the best speakers of Ebonics there ever was”.

Ebonics, also known as African American Vernacular English, is an offshoot of American English. Characterized by pronunciation relating to speakers of Creole or West African languages, and the omission of the final consonant in words (han’ instead of hand), it was defined by Robert Lee Williams, who coined the term in 1973, as English vocabulary with African linguistic structure. Detractors claim it is a dialect – or bastardisation – at best.

Professor H Samy Alim, an expert on black language and hip-hop culture at Stanford University, admitted he initially thought the new DEA recruitment drive was a joke but said it highlighted a serious issue.

He said: “It seems ironic that schools that are serving and educating black children have not recognized the legitimacy of this language, yet the authorities and the police are recognizing that this is a language that they don’t understand. It really tells us a lot about where we are socially in terms of recognizing African American speech.”

Walt Wolfram, professor of English linguistics at North Carolina State University, who has studied African American English for 40 years, said: “There is something of substance here. There are differences in terms of language and lexicon and so forth that are difficult to understand for most people, so it is an issue. What, of course, happens is it gets politicized and trivialized by the very term ‘Ebonics.’”

The term derives from a blend of the words “ebony” and “phonics.”

Here are a few phrases I have compiled for my readers:

Baller-blocking: To obstruct someone who is trying to accomplish something.

Bounce (verb): To depart, or to leave a venue.

Front (verb): To portray a false identity or put on a facade.

Grill (noun): One’s personal space, or one’s teeth. (Get in his grill.)

Hater (noun): A jealous person. (Don’t be a hater.)

Ice (noun): Jewelry one wears like diamonds in earrings or chains. Someone who is “iced-out” is a person wearing a lot of diamond studded jewelry.

Pimp Juice (noun): Having qualities that appeal to the opposite sex. (I got all the pimp juice ladies be wantin’.) or Whassup pimp juice? Essentially pimp juice is similar to eye-candy.

Smack (verb): To talk smack is to say things that are inaccurate with the intention or angering another person. Basketballers do this a lot while dribbling. An example would be: You throw like your little sista, or in a boxing match you could say to the opponent, “You hit like a beyotch, is that all you got?”

Stun (verb): Similar to ballin’ but manifesting itself through physical or material means. To stun is to ball but being able to back it up with some dead presidents.

Jimmy Carter makes trip to N. Korea to free American

Jimmy Carter

Newscast Media — Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter was expected to arrive in North Korea’s capital city as early as Tuesday to negotiate the release of a U.S. citizen who has been detained since January of this year.

Senior U.S. officials have informed the press of Carter’s plan to depart this week for North Korea on a “purely humanitarian mission” to free 30-year-old Aijalon Mahli Gomes. Gomes, a devout Christian from Boston who taught English in South Korea, was arrested on Jan. 25 and sentenced in April to eight years of hard labor for entering North Korea illegally and for an unspecified “hostile act.”

Earlier this month, a team sent by the U.S. State Department to visit North Korea tried to free Gomes but was not granted permission to do so.

North Korea has reportedly requested a visit by a high-profile U.S. figure to gain the release of Gomes, and one U.S. official told The Associated Press that North Korea had agreed to free Gomes if Carter came for him.

Foreign Policy magazine, which first broke the news of Carter’s trip, reported the former president as the top pick among several possible candidates to help secure Gomes’ release. Others who were reportedly considered included Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.

Last year, former U.S. President Bill Clinton had flown to Pyongyang to free two U.S. journalists, Euna Lee and Laura Ling of Current TV, who were sentenced to prison after illegally entering North Korea.

Muslims start their own Facebook called IkhwanBook

Newscast Media –CAIRO, Egypt — Facebook has competition from the Muslim Brotherhood who have started their own social network called IkhwanBook. The user is greeted with the message, “Welcome in IkhwanBook Site where you can share your life with other muslim brothers over the world.”

The site looks similar to Facebook, but users say it respects Islamic values better. It has more reserved use of photographs, less intrusion in the personal lives of members, and a different attitude to homosexuality.

Because the group is banned, The Muslim Brotherhood says they are using the Internet, partly because it is one of the few channels of communication left open to them in Egypt. The group is also banned from the airwaves and is also prohibited from publishing articles in newspapers. This group insists that it does not want to isolate itself from the world, nor to compete with Facebook.

However, some Muslims have criticised Facebook for not shutting down anti-Islamic sites, not to mention their unease about the more liberal attitudes and opinions that can be exchanged on Facebook.

Because the group is banned, some members have concerns that the government will identify them through their membership of Ikhwanbook. For now the site is only operating on a trial basis, and has been doing so for only a few months, but the site organizers intend to go full throttle at a later date as the membership increases.

Bloggers must pay for business license in Philly

Bloggers charged fee

Newscast Media — According to the Philadelphia City Paper, Internet bloggers who wish to continue their craft in Philadelphia are being asked to pay $300 for a business license, whether or not they generate revenue from blogging.

According to the city’s website, every individual, partnership, association and corporation engaged in a business, profession or other activity for profit within the city of Philadelphia must file a Business Privilege Tax Return. Whether the blog earns a profit does not matter.

Andrea Mannino of the Philadelphia Department of Revenue, told the City Paper that by choosing the option to make money from ads — regardless of how much or little money is actually generated — qualifies a blog as a business. These business privilege taxes and licenses are far from popular in Philadelphia. Smaller vendors have been crying foul about the city randomly cracking down on licenses and fees.

Many Philadelphians who didn’t know that they owed taxes on their unprofitable blogs missed out on tax amnesty offered back in the spring. Still, not all bloggers are concerned with rushing to print out new tax forms. Many didn’t even know about it until it was reported on Monday.
